Pharmacy Department @ Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital

The Pharmacy Department at Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital ensures the safe and efficient management of medications across all clinical, surgical, and outpatient services. Organized into administrative, clinical, and logistical units, the department functions as a fully integrated system, providing continuous pharmaceutical support to every ward. From selecting, storing, and distributing medications to reviewing prescriptions and monitoring therapy, every activity is designed to maximize patient safety and improve treatment outcomes.

A team of over 200 professionals—including senior, clinical, and assistant pharmacists—works closely with physicians, nurses, and infection control specialists to ensure medications are used appropriately throughout every stage of care. Pharmacy services cover adult and pediatric wards, surgical and maternity units, post-operative recovery, intensive care, emergency departments, outpatient clinics, and private care settings. Clinical pharmacists are present in the wards to supervise prescriptions, assess treatment effectiveness, prevent drug interactions, and support antimicrobial stewardship programs. Meanwhile, centralized operations ensure timely distribution of medications and medical supplies throughout the hospital, with dedicated units providing 24/7 coverage for inpatient and emergency areas and offering personalized support for discharged patients.

The department is also actively involved in the hospital’s digital transformation, implementing systems to enhance medication traceability, optimize logistics, and reduce risk. Ongoing training programs keep the staff aligned with international best practices, while internal collaboration promotes a unified approach to pharmaceutical safety and efficiency. The Pharmacy Department remains a cornerstone of Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
