The Intensive Care Unit at Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital, developed in collaboration with Policlinico San Donato, is a tertiary-level facility dedicated to providing advanced critical care for both adult and pediatric patients. Since 2025, the unit has been extensively upgraded to align with international benchmarks in safety, infection prevention, and quality of care.
With 24 fully equipped beds and further expansion planned, the ICU is staffed by a multidisciplinary team operating under the joint leadership of Iraqi and GSD critical care specialists. The unit is designed to manage highly complex and life-threatening conditions, including severe infections, multi-organ failure, and antibiotic-resistant diseases, supported by structured clinical protocols for sedation, mechanical ventilation, infection control, and rapid emergency response. Its activity is constantly monitored through a robust system of performance indicators, ensuring ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement in patient outcomes.

Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital is a major tertiary healthcare facility located in the holy city of Najaf, around 160 km south of Baghdad.
