Department of Nephrology @ Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital
The Nephrology Unit provides specialized care for patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases, including renal insufficiency, end-stage renal disease, lupus nephritis, and conditions requiring dialysis. The unit offers both medical management and a full range of renal replacement therapies, tailored to the severity and type of each patient's kidney dysfunction.
Care is organized across three dedicated units: hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). This is supported by a procedure area where vascular access interventions are performed, including temporary and permanent venous catheter insertion and therapeutic fluid drainage when indicated. Treatment is further supported by hemodialysis machines and specialized equipment for renal replacement therapies and patient monitoring.
The unit follows a structured system of scheduled monthly care plans, provided free of charge, with particular attention to kidney transplant recipients requiring ongoing monitoring and follow-up. With approximately 10 to 24 patients received daily, the unit delivers focused, high-quality care to some of the most clinically complex patients in the hospital.
