Biography

Dr. Ali Al-Shafeay is an Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Specialist and the Chief of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf Teaching Hospital.

In his clinical practice, Dr. Al-Shafeay oversees the care of critically ill patients, establishing Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs) across various medical specialties to ensure the highest standard of comprehensive care. He is responsible for implementing ICU and mechanical ventilation protocols in strict adherence to national and international guidelines. Furthermore, he serves as an anesthesiologist in the operating theatre, possessing extensive expertise in general, neuroaxial, and ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia.
Dedicated to advancing clinical practices, he actively supports medical researchers, including anesthesia residents and technicians, in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
His academic focus is on investigating and implementing optimal anesthetic strategies and improving patient care outcomes within the ICU.
Additionally, he holds a Certificate in Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia (USGRA) from the Iraqi Medical Board of Pain Management. He is also a Trained Mass Casualty (MasCa) Officer and maintains active American Heart Association (AHA) certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
